HELLO Rams Supporters!

This Friday night, November16th, the Rams Booster Club Fall Auction and Bake Sale will be held at Happy’s place in Key West.

New this year is online silent auction bidding.  This seems to be the way to go with silent auctions in recent years so we thought we would give it a try.

Dubuque Senior to Present Footloose: The Musical

DUBUQUE SENIOR TO PRESENT FOOTLOOSE: THE MUSICAL

Dubuque Senior High School will present the musical adaptation of the smash-hit movie, Footloose. Performances will be Friday, November 2 and Saturday, November 3 at 7:00pm, and Sunday, November 4 at 2:00pm. Dubuque Senior’s production will be performed in the Lamb-Hedeman Auditorium with a cast, crew and orchestra of more than 100 students.

DESCRIPTION: Based on the hit 1980s musical, and featuring top songs from the era, Footloose is the story of a group of students triumphing over tragedy. Life in small-town Bomont is peaceful until Ren arrives from Chicago. Breaking every taboo, Ren and his fellow students bring dance back to the heart of a town struggling with the loss of one of their own. Footloose is a celebration of the power of young people – and the young at heart. Music is by Tom Snow, lyrics by Dean Pitchford and additional music by Eric Carmen, Sammy Hagar, Kenny Loggins and Jim Steinman.

TICKETS: $10 in advance/$12 at the door
Tickets may be purchased in advance online at www.dbqsenior.booktix.com. Tickets may also be purchased at the door beginning one hour before the performance.
RUN TIME: 2 Hours 30 Minutes, with an 15 minute intermission
TIDBITS:

  • Footloose the Musical is based off the 1984 film of the same name starring Kevin Bacon.
  • The original Broadway production ran for 709 performances.
  • The Dubuque Senior cast features sophomore Gavin Hall as Ren McCormick in the iconic Kevin Bacon role. Junior Jackson Kates will play Reverend Shaw Moore, the role starring John Lithgow in the original film.
  • The musical includes songs from legendary songwriters Sammy Hagar and Kenny Loggins. Popular hit songs featured in the musical include “Holding Out for a Hero” “The Girl Gets Around” and “Footloose.”
  • Dubuque Senior has been selected to perform Footloose at the 2018 Iowa Thespian Festival on Friday, November 9 at Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center in Cedar Falls. The full production, including sets, lights, costumes, and props will be transported and re-assembled in order to be performed for 1,000 students from across the state of Iowa.

Parent Teacher Conference Information

PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCE INFORMATION

Dear Senior High School Parents:

One of the best ways parents can help students succeed in school is to participate regularly in conferences with teachers. Please accept this invitation to attend conferences with your student to discuss your child’s progress with his/her teachers. When parents, students and teachers work together, we can assist each other in providing a positive experience for your son or daughter.

This year we will be offering two unique opportunities for conferences with teachers.
Tuesday, October 9th (evening) – teachers will be in the Nora Gym & Cafeteria to meet individually with parents and students. These are not scheduled and conferences should be limited to a maximum of 5 to 7 minutes.
Tuesday, October 16th (evening) – teachers will be in the Nora Gym & Cafeteria to meet individually with parents and students. These are not scheduled and conferences should be limited to a maximum of 5 to 7 minutes.
Thursday, October 18th (morning) – schedule a group conference where you can meet with all of your student’s teachers at one time. These will be scheduled in a 20 minute time slot.

The schedule for these three opportunities is:

Thursday, October 18th  7:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Scheduled in classrooms

You will not need to make an appointment for the conference format on either Tuesday night. An appointment IS necessary for the Thursday conferences. They can be scheduled by contacting the Main Office at 552-5500. We encourage parents and students to attend together. If you need more information, please call the Main Office.

The entrance for conferences will be through the new main entrance. Parking will be available in the main parking lot. Handicapped parking is also available and is marked.

Theatre Department Presents Cabaret

DUBUQUE SENIOR THEATRE TO PRESENT CABARET BENEFIT PERFORMANCE

The Dubuque Senior Theatre Department will host a special one-night-only cabaret performance on Saturday, October 13th at 7:30 PM. The cabaret concert will feature songs from the best of Broadway – including performances from classics from Frank Wildhorn’s Jekyll and Hyde to the hit Broadway comedy, Something Rotten. The concert will include more than 75 students from Dubuque Senior – past and present. This outstanding evening of musical theatre will be held in the Lamb-Hedeman Auditorium at Dubuque Senior High School. All proceeds from the performance will benefit Dubuque Senior’s performance of Footloose at the Iowa Thespian Festival in November.

Performance Details
 The cabaret will include a sneak peak of Dubuque Senior’s upcoming production of Footloose.
 Dubuque Senior’s performance of Footloose features junior Samantha Barklow as Ariel, and sophomore Gavin Hall as Ren, in a part made famous by Kevin Bacon in the 1980s hit movie.
 A medley from the chilling, gothic Frank Wildhorn classic Jekyll and Hyde will feature a cast of more than 20 students.
 The cabaret will also include a medley from the hilarious Something Rotten, an award-winning musical about William Shakespeare.
 The performance will also feature many Dubuque Senior Theatre alumni that are returning to the Lamb-Hedeman Auditorium for the first time in years.
 The benefit concert will help the Dubuque Senior Theatre program perform their first musical on the mainstage at the Iowa Thespian Festival in school history.

If you are planning to participate in a fall sport, please report at the times listed.  Have physical forms, concussion form, and student information section, all completely filled out and signedNO ONE will be allowed to practice until the completed forms have been turned in to the Activity Office secretary either at the check-in date or in the Activities Office before the first practice. NO EXCEPTIONS!  The physical will be kept on file in the office for one year.


ImPACT Concussion Test Schedule

Immediate Post-concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing (ImPACT) will be administered the same week as check-in. Those athletes who need to take this test, please note the time of the test and have your consent form filled out and signed.

NOTE: this date MAY NOT be the same as your designated check-in date!

Dubuque Senior Athletic Director Receives National Distinguished Service Award

Brent Cook, assistant principal for activities/athletics at Dubuque Senior High School

Brent Cook, assistant principal for activities/athletics at Dubuque Senior High School, was named one of 11 national recipients of the 2017 Distinguished Service Awards given by the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA).

The award was presented on December 12 in Phoenix, Arizona, during the banquet at the 48th annual National Athletic Directors Conference conducted jointly by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and the NIAAA.

Dubuque Senior Student Selected for National Youth Program

Sibani Ram PhotoDubuque Senior High School student Sibani Ram was recently selected as one of two Iowa students to participate in the 56th annual United States Senate Youth Program to be held March 3-10 in Washington, DC.

Ram joins Robert Nishimwe from North High School in Des Moines as representatives on the 104-student delegation participating in Washington Week. The Iowa delegates were selected by a committee at the Iowa Department of Education.
