Class of 2020 – Submit your senior photo!

Now is the time for students in the Class of 2020 to start thinking about your senior yearbook photo.

Photos are due by 11:59 p.m. on December 6, 2019.

To submit your photo:

  • Attach your photo as a jpeg, place your name in the subject line, and email to dubuquesenior@gmail.com.
  • Please ensure your name is spelled/capitalized/etc. as you would like it to appear.
  • You will receive a confirmation email once we receive the photo. Please be aware that this email account is not checked over the summer. If you send a photo over the summer, your confirmation email will be sent at the beginning of the school year.
  • If we do not receive a photo, but an ID photo is available, the ID photo will be used. Photos do not need to be professional, but must follow the guidelines set forth in the Parent Student Handbook.

If you would like to order a 2019-2020 yearbook, cost is $50 and ordering will available on the district Online Payment Portal. Ordering will close at 11:59 p.m. on March 31, 2020 – NO EXCEPTIONS.

Dubuque Senior to Present Footloose: The Musical

DUBUQUE SENIOR TO PRESENT FOOTLOOSE: THE MUSICAL

Dubuque Senior High School will present the musical adaptation of the smash-hit movie, Footloose. Performances will be Friday, November 2 and Saturday, November 3 at 7:00pm, and Sunday, November 4 at 2:00pm. Dubuque Senior’s production will be performed in the Lamb-Hedeman Auditorium with a cast, crew and orchestra of more than 100 students.

DESCRIPTION: Based on the hit 1980s musical, and featuring top songs from the era, Footloose is the story of a group of students triumphing over tragedy. Life in small-town Bomont is peaceful until Ren arrives from Chicago. Breaking every taboo, Ren and his fellow students bring dance back to the heart of a town struggling with the loss of one of their own. Footloose is a celebration of the power of young people – and the young at heart. Music is by Tom Snow, lyrics by Dean Pitchford and additional music by Eric Carmen, Sammy Hagar, Kenny Loggins and Jim Steinman.

TIDBITS:

  • Footloose the Musical is based off the 1984 film of the same name starring Kevin Bacon.
  • The original Broadway production ran for 709 performances.
  • The Dubuque Senior cast features sophomore Gavin Hall as Ren McCormick in the iconic Kevin Bacon role. Junior Jackson Kates will play Reverend Shaw Moore, the role starring John Lithgow in the original film.
  • The musical includes songs from legendary songwriters Sammy Hagar and Kenny Loggins. Popular hit songs featured in the musical include “Holding Out for a Hero” “The Girl Gets Around” and “Footloose.”
  • Dubuque Senior has been selected to perform Footloose at the 2018 Iowa Thespian Festival on Friday, November 9 at Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center in Cedar Falls. The full production, including sets, lights, costumes, and props will be transported and re-assembled in order to be performed for 1,000 students from across the state of Iowa.

Dubuque Senior Athletic Director Receives National Distinguished Service Award

Brent Cook, assistant principal for activities/athletics at Dubuque Senior High School

Brent Cook, assistant principal for activities/athletics at Dubuque Senior High School, was named one of 11 national recipients of the 2017 Distinguished Service Awards given by the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA).

The award was presented on December 12 in Phoenix, Arizona, during the banquet at the 48th annual National Athletic Directors Conference conducted jointly by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and the NIAAA.

2017 Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees Announced

Dubuque Senior High School and the Hall of Fame committee is pleased to announce its 26th Athletic Hall of Fame induction class. The 2017 induction class to the Dubuque Senior Athletics Hall of Fame will participate in Homecoming Activities on October 13 and 14.

Inductees will be part of the Dubuque Senior Homecoming Breakfast with the Student Council, School Assembly, and Parade on Friday-October 13. Inductees will be introduced between football games on Friday-October 13 (opponent is North Scott HS).

Induction ceremonies will take place at a banquet on Saturday, October 14 in the new Dubuque Senior HS Cafeteria. The banquet will begin at 4:00 pm. Tickets for the banquet are $25.00 and can be obtained by calling Dubuque Senior’s Activity Office at 563-552-5521. The public is encouraged to attend the banquet and honor the Rams Hall of Fame inductees. Reservations are REQUIRED for the dinner and must be made by September 29, 2017.

Inductee Bios

MARY BECK
Mary Beck is a 1982 graduate of Dubuque Senior High School. Mary was a standout athlete for the Rams, earning letters in Softball, Track and Field, and Volleyball. Mary played in four state tournaments in Softball under Coach Art Wiegand, 4 state Championship matches in Volleyball under Coach Bob Beardsley. Mary was an all-state athlete in both Softball and Volleyball during her career with the Rams. Mary Beck attended Missouri State University on a Volleyball scholarship, earned all-conference honors, and competed in 2-NCAA tournaments. Mary has worked as freelance and fine arts photographer for close to 30 years. In 1996, Mary Beck was inducted into her college Hall of Fame and in 2010 inducted into the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Hall for Volleyball.

ROY BUOL
Roy Buol is a 1968 graduate of Dubuque Senior High School. Roy was a 2-way starter for the Rams in Football and participated in Basketball (1-year) and Track & Field. Buol is a retired employee of John Deere Dubuque Works (30 years of service). Since 2002 has served as Director of Landscaping & Grounds Department at the University of Dubuque. Roy Buol is currently in his 22nd year of public service, the last 12 as Mayor of Dubuque. Roy is a member of the US Conference of Mayors Advisory Board, past co-chair and current treasurer of the Mississippi River Cities & Towns Initiative, and represents the City on several boards and committees.

DOUG COLIN
Doug Colin is a 1981 graduate of Dubuque Senior High School. Doug was a standout swimmer for the Rams during his high school career. Setting the 500-yard freestyle record in his first season of swimming with the Rams, the record (while broken by other swimmers) is now held by his son Ben Colin. Doug was a 2-time state qualifier in swimming under Coach Dan Duclos. Doug has held several different swim coaching jobs, including with the Rams program, but has left a lasting mark with Club Swimming. Since the fall of 1991, Doug Colin has been instrumental in the Dubuque Area Swimming Hurricanes (DASH) program, serving as coach and Executive Director. Doug also coached at Loras College from 1998-2016 and was 2-time IIAC Swimming coach of the Year (04 & 06).

MIKE FLEMING
Mike Fleming is a graduate of Wahlert Catholic High School and holds degrees from the Loras College (BA-1976) and the University of Dubuque (MA-2000). Mike Fleming began his coaching career at Wahlert Catholic in 1976 (76-78) as the Sophomore Baseball coach and taught at St. Anthony’s during the same time frame. Mike then had several teaching and coaching stops across the state; Mount Ayr (78-80), Norwalk (80-86) before returning to Dubuque and taking up residency at Dubuque Senior since 1986 as a coach and teacher, coaching Men’s Basketball and Baseball for the Rams. Mike has served as Dubuque Leisure Services Baseball/Softball instructor for 36 years. As Baseball Coach, Mike started the Scott Althoff Memorial game in honor of the former Ram player; each year $500 in scholarship money is awarded to a Baseball player in Scott’s name.

ZACH HODGE
Zach Hodge is a 2006 graduate of Dubuque Senior High School. As a Ram athlete, Zach earned 7-Major D’s (3-track & field, 2-football, 2-baseball). Zach was a Track & Field Drake Relays and State Qualifier in his Sophomore, Junior, and Senior seasons. Zach Hodge was an excellent student, graduating 9th in a class of 341, while carrying a 4.02 GPA. Zach also earned the American Legion School Award in 2006. Zach earned his BA (2010) from Wartburg College and MBA (2013) from the University of Dubuque. Zach Hodge is a Vice President at Hodge, a Material Handling and Logistics company. Zach Hodge is a board member for two different community organizations; Run4Troops Marathon and Tri-State Mountain Bike Riders.

HENRY (HANK) VOLLENWEIDER
Henry Vollenweider is a 1938 graduate of Dubuque Senior High School. Henry played football and track & field for the Rams and shared stories with his family about running football plays up the hills. When practicing hurdles, his coach put a matchbook on each hurdle and Henry was to “graze” it off; Henry told of more than one tumble to the cinder track while practicing that technique. Henry Vollenweider attended the University of Iowa on a scholarship, ran track, and played football for the Hawkeyes. Henry was a member of the 1939 “Ironmen” football team. He once returned a kick-off back 92 yards for a touchdown. Henry was the track team captain and excelled in the hurdle events for the Hawks. Henry Vollenweider passed away April 8, 2016 at the age of 95.

2017-2018 Parking Lottery Names Announced

The Parking Lottery names have been drawn for 2017-18 school year. Due to construction, at this time there is only parking available for 12th graders. The lottery winners will also need the parking forms posted to purchase their sticker.

Please remember to bring proof of insurance, valid driver’s license, vehicle registration and $40 to registration at Roosevelt on August 9-10 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Please call 563/552-5504 with any questions.
